Anyone who tells you that it's expensive to eat in Waikiki has probably never been to the strip mall on Kaheka anchored by Daiei, now called Don Quijote. Don Quijote, a grocery store that sells much more than groceries, and other tenants in the unassuming strip mall offer a variety of delicious plates for those willing to walk a few blocks from Waikiki, at very reasonable prices. Sushi Robot, a favorite of ours, offers tasty mochiko chicken, grilled butterfish and other delights you'd normally find in bento box lunches. Don't let the off beat name put you off.
